The spatial distribution ofwater resource shortage in China is summed up from the p ractical condition and sustaining devel2
opment angles. The actuality and trend ofwater resource are reviewed, the characteristic ofwater cycle and water resource utilization in
arid region ofNorthwest China are analyzed. And research advances on water cycle and effective utilization ofwater resource in arid re2
gion are summarized, the scientific countermeasures about effective utilization of water resource in arid region are p reliminarily dis2
cussed. Finally, some important scientific issues aboutwater cycle and effective utilization ofwater resource in arid region ofNorthwest
China are put forward.

Abstract1299)      PDF(pc) (252KB)(1973)       Save

Based on the theory of isentropic potential vorticity(IPV),a diagnostic analysis of a continuous rain process in the east of  Northwest China in the second ten—day of May in 2005 WaS carried out.The results show that the large circulation background which influenced this continuous rain process was the h Jigh ridge near the Ural Mountain and the continually deepening trough near the Balkhash Lake;this continuous rain process Was caused by the low vortex continually created from the plateau together with the cold air split from the north.Because of the topographic effect of the Tibetan Plateau, the hi sh potential vorticity O11 the isentropic surface was transported to the lower reaches along the north side of the plateau;the high value area of IPV Was closely associated with the precipita·tion area。and the positive value area of IPV Can reflect the movement of the cold air, thus it Call be a significant predictor.

Analysis of Circulation Characteristic for Abnormal High Temperature over the Northeast Side of Tibetan Plateau
LIU Xin-Wei, DIAO Qiang-Yun, SUN Guo-Wu
J4    2006, 24 (3): 42-46.
Abstract1835)      PDF(pc) (390KB)(2149)       Save
The summer high temperature trend over the northeast side of the Tibetan Plateau was investigated by using the daily high temperature data (1960-2003) of 80 stations there and 30 years (1971-2000) NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data, and by selecting the typical case of abnormal high temperature, the circulation characteristic and the possible region influenced by the same weather process were analyzed. It was found that if the westerly index varied from high to low and maintained, the high temperature weather would occur and last, on the contrary, it would end. The main circulation characteristic of the high temperature weather was the addition of the South Asia high and the Northwest Pacific subtropical high. The positive temperature advection of the upper level and the negative vorticity throughout the whole level also induced the persistence of the high temperature weather. The temperature change over Lanzhou and its surrounding areas was consistent, when temperature high over Lanzhou, the northeast side of the Tibetan Plateau would reach the high temperature at the same time.

The Effects of Global Warming on Economy,Society and Ecological Environment
in Gansu Province and the Countermeasures
SONG Lian-Chun, ZHANG Jiang, SUN Guo-Wu, DIAO Jian-Hua, ZHENG Yong-Yi
J4    2004, 22 (2): 69-75.
Abstract1537)      PDF(pc) (208KB)(2300)       Save

The fact of global warming and the effects on ecological environment, society and economy in Gansu province in the background of global warming are analyzed with the interrelated materials in this paper.
The countermeasures against climate change andsustainable development are shown too.And those,to Gansu province, can be summed up as two primary problems.First is water problem.Water problem is primarily to utilize reasonably, manage efficiently, save water, exploit and utilize water resources by precipitation enhancement over the Mountain Qilian. Second is sand problem. The problem is crucially to hold back the process of desertification. As this paper’sview, this holding back can be realized by the optimum project for recovering vegetation which would be abstract edby quantitatively calculating the categories distribution, run and carrying capacity of local forest and grassp lanted by using Regional Climate-Ecology Mode according to ecological environment sincluding terrain, physiognomy, climatehydrology, soil and so on.

DIAO Hong, SUN Guo-Wu
J4    2004, 22 (1): 69-73.
Abstract1070)      PDF(pc) (177KB)(1817)       Save

Under the background of the global warming, the plant disease, insects, weeds and rats,as a new Creeping Environmental
Problems(CEP)phenomenon, was pointed out in this paper. It is suffering potential impacts from atmospheric change day by day.
That is to say,the area of geographical distribution of plant pest(disease, insects, weedsandrats)is extending, the line of overwinter is migrating toward north, the time of devolopment shorten, the propagation per year is increasing, the ration of population
in creasing will speed up,the time of pest occurring earlier, the disaster is heavier than before, virus disease will increase, new plant
disease, insects, weeds and rats will appear and soon

The Arid Climate Variable Characteristics and Its Influence on Production Structure in the Central Asia and Northwest of China
SONG Lian-Chun, HAN Yong-Xiang, SUN Guo-Wu
J4    2003, 21 (3): 43-47.
Abstract1496)      PDF(pc) (348KB)(1626)       Save

The annual precipitation variable characteristics andproduction structure were analyzed using a hundred years annual data of
precipitation in the main bo勿of arid and semi一arid area ,in Central Asia and northwest of China The results indicated that the patial distribution and time evolution of annual precipitation in this area not only show unitary features .but also unique feature.  In addition .a successful readjusted example of production structure was raised based on the analysis of rainfall characteristics in this area.
